    Description

    Vintage miniature metal statue of the Lion of St. Mark, the symbol of Venice, Italy.
    This proud winged Lion is cast in a heavyweight metal with a golden bronze finish and very good sculptural detail. The Lion is depicted with his paw resting on an open book inscribed "PAX TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEUS" meaning "Peace be with you, Mark, my evangelist". The underside of his front and rear paws have screw holes, suggesting this was probably mounted to a small marble base.
    It measures 2" tall by 2.75" wide by 1" deep, and weighs 1/2 lb.
    This Lion of St. Mark has a lot of age and likely dates from the early to mid-20th century.
